Powered Temp-Vent systems are
designed for foundations that require a higher rate of airflow and for
areas that are difficult to vent. Depending on the model they can move
large amounts of air per hour. Designed to run continuously on a low
speed, they draw minimal electricity. However, Temp-Vent recommends
power vents be fitted with a thermostat and a humidistat to control the
operation of the vent.
(Vented
vs. Sealed Crawlspaces)
To Specify:
To determine the correct number of Power Temp-Vents, use the
following formula:
-
Multiply
the square feet of the crawl space by the height in feet. This gives
the number of cubic feet in the crawl space.
-
Multiply
the cubic feet in the crawl space by the number of air changes per
hour desired (4-6 is the recommendation). This gives the total number
of cubic feet of air that has to be moved per hour to produce the
desired number of air changes.
-
Divide
this number by either 7,200 or 11,160 — depending on which model is
being used — to obtain the number of power vents needed.
-
Install
Automatic vents to provide air intake on one side of the foundation
with the power vents on the other side to create a system of intake
and exhaust.
CUSTOMER FEEDBACK
Glad to take the time to recognize a level of service that stands out.
Have been half-heartedly looked for foundation vent wells for years. The
locals that woulda' and shoulda' had them didn't so I knew this task would
be governed by one or several of "Murphy's Laws"!
I found them by chance at your
site...ordered on-line and rec'd exactly what I expected within a couple
of days. I was so impressed I installed both within two days!
Whatever system you have in place is
working...more important, the employee(s) who monitor e-orders and start
the ball rolling are earning their paycheck(s)...not to mention the rest
of those involved in locating, packing and shipping! Again, thank you!

Calculating
how many foundation vents are needed.
Example: 1500 square foot
crawl space x 3 feet high = 4500
4500 cubic feet x 6 = 27,000 / 7,200 = 3.74

These units have a 5 yr warranty & can be
powered with a drop cord. All of these vents are
automatic like regular Automatic Vents. Opens at 70
degrees and closes at 40. The removable front grill
on the series 5 has no bearing on the operation of the vents. It is
just a preference of some installers.
Actual
dimensions of the Power Vent that fits in the vent
hole is 7 3/4" wide x 15 3/4" long with a
depth of 11 inches. There is also a 1" lip on
the outside perimeter of the vent. These sizes apply
to both the Series 5 & 6 Make sure you measure
first, there is a 30% restocking fee to return these
vents.
Frequently Asked Questions

Totally
enclosed motors feature a 3-prong plug and are 0.01 HP rated (quiet
model) or 0.017 HP rated (high
output model) for continuous operation. UL
recognized and CSA certified.
Series 6 is a one-piece vent and Series 5 vents have a removable
front grill that can be snapped on after installation. A high
output model with a larger motor and a quiet model with a
smaller motor are both available. (See specifications.)
Power vents should be placed on one side of the house with
non-powered vents that act as intake vents, on the other side.
A Thermostat should be used to turn the fan off in
freezing weather to protect pipes under the home and save
energy. A Humidistat should also be connected to the fan
to control the operation of the vent. A damp weather shut-off
humidistat will turn the unit off when it's raining outside.
A Duct System is available that attaches to a powered foundation
vent to provide targeted ventilation in hard to reach areas.

Thermostats
Set at approximately 50° F, the thermostat turns the unit off
when the crawl space temperature drops below the setting.
Normally, when the temperature outside is at 40 degrees the
temperature in the crawl space is approximately 50 degrees. The
thermostat helps protect pipes and save energy by turning the vent
off when the temperature is close to freezing.

Humidistats
A humidistat can connect to the Power Temp-Vent to turn the fan on
and off automatically. Two types of humidistats are available.
| • |
Model
B: Damp weather humidistat, mounts behind an
intake vent, opposite the side where the power vent is
mounted. Power vents stay off when the humidity is above
the setting. The vent turns on when humidity is below the
setting or if there is a quick rise in humidity, so that
the unit turns off when it is raining. |
| • |
Model
C: Turns unit on when humidity in crawl space
rises above a pre set limit, usually set at 50% humidity. |
|
|
|
The Humidistat /
Thermostat system can be used to control up to 6 power
vents |
